For the Sake of Honour Award

RC Meenambakkam has a reputation for recognizing the most deserving achievers with “For the Sake of Honour Award”, the highest award by a Rotary Club. This year, this award was conferred on a towering personality who has dedicated his life for the cause of justice to the downtrodden. Justice. Dr.P.R.Gokulakrishnan, the farmer Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court, is a doyen in the judiciary circle and known for his innovative approach for speedy justice to the poor and needy.

The award was given away in an impressive function held on 28^th March 2007 at Hotel Savera. District Governor Nominee Rtn.Subramanian, the Chief Guest for the function, handed over the award and a citation to Justice.Gokulakrishnan.

Senior advocates Rtn.Krishnamoorthy, Rtn.Gandhi and Mr. M.S.Ramaswamy felicitated the recipient of the award. DGN.Rtn.Subramanian spoke on the background of “For the sake of Honour Award” and congratulated Justice.Gokulakrishnan for his great work that made him the choice for the award. He also congratulated the club for choosing such a deserving personality who would add value to the award.

Justice.Gokulakrishnan is also known for his literary contribution, which was evident during his powerful acceptance speech in Tamil. He spoke about service of Rotarians to the mankind and the message was clear and highly motivating. The meeting had a good crowd with Rotarians, Anns, Annets and guests. Rtn. Srieedharan was the Master of Ceremony.

Presentation on the Spastic Society of Tamil Nadu

Mrs. Annie Shyam, Director Spastic Society of Tamil Nadu. Mrs. Annie’s presentation on the activities of the spastic society was an eye opener to many of the Rotarians. With powerful pictures telling many untold words, Mrs.Annie took the audience on a virtual trip to the spastic society making every one feel the pains and gains of the spastic children, their parents, their trainers, and the people around them. It was surprising to know that these children could be trained in many vocation and they could stand on their own earning their daily bread. The conviction and the commitment that came through the presentation of Mrs.Annie were so strong that many Rotarians expressed that we need to do much more to the unfortunate children than what we are doing now. Spontaneous gesture of help in updating their web site by Rtn.P.Sridhar was well appreciated. Mrs. Annie invited the club to use their facility for conducting meetings and events.

Distribution of Mobile Ironing Carts.

The District vocational service project of handing over of 50 Mobile Ironing carts to the needy persons was held at a function on 7^th March 07 at 3.30 pm at Dr. MGR Janaki College of Arts and Science for Women.

 

From our club we sponsored one mobile cart. The recipient of the cart was identified by Ann.Saradha Srieedharan. He is a hearing impaired person and highly deserves the help.

Big Bang & Expanding of Universe

“Big Bang and expanding Universe” It was indeed a different topic for a Rotary Club meeting. In fact a bit heavy too. Mr.S.Ganapathy Subramaniam, an engineer by education and retired marketing man by profession, took to keen interest on the subject of Big bang theory and started reading books and research papers on this subject. Eventually he found them to be too interesting to resist. His depth of the knowledge in the subject was evident during his talk. He covered the events that lead to the discovery and subsequent approval of Big Bang theory and also gave an overall essence of the theory. Though some of the things he talked went above the head of many at the audience, it was interesting to get some overall concepts related to the birth of this universe.
