National Sports Meet for the Challenged

Our Club along with RC.East RA Puram, RC Gemini and RC Nungambakkam conducted the Sixth National RYLA for the physically challenged on 10th, Feb 2007, Saturday at the Nehru Park Stadium. This is the sixth year that our club has been successfully organizing this grand event

Around 200 participants from many parts of the country including Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Maharashtra and TamilNadu took part in this two days sports and cultural meet.

Highlights of the Sixth RYLA

DG.Rtn.J.B.Kamdar inaugurated the Sports Meet and took the salute during the march past in the presence of District Sports Officer, representing Member Secretary of SDAT Sri. Atulya Mishra. Inspired by the enthusiasm of the challenged sports participant, DG.Rtn.J.B.Kamdar announced a personal gift of Rs 1000/ for the RYLA Champion. About 45 sports events were conducted through out the day.

A new game called Bocchi was introduced for the first time in the event. The specialty of this game was that it was played by Rotarians as well as the challenged participants.

Padmashree V.Baskaran gave away the medals to the winners, while Rtn.Aluwalia Dist. Charman RYLA, joined for the evening function.

On 10th Feb, evening, cultural competitions were conducted at the Nehru Indoor Stadium ground. Artists from Sun Music channel, Arvind, Nisha and Riya participated and judged the performance.

The VJs were moved by the performance of the challenged and encouraged them by dancing and singing along with them.

On 11th Feb in the morning, painting completion was conducted for the participants. In the afternoon the valedictory function was held. DGN.Rtn Subramanian presided the function. Ms. Mallika from West Bengal was adjudged as the Champion for the Sixth RYLA with a glittering Cup. The meet ended with Ms Mallika, singing the National Anthem in the original Bengali accent.

Comfortable stay, local conveyance and delicious food were organized for two days. The grand event had the support of many sponsors such as Nestle, Pepsi, Rajalakshmi Engineering College, Dinamalar and Sun TV.
